· Red, swollen tender gums which bleed during tooth brushing or flossing
· Bad breath, or a bad taste in one’s mouth
· Teeth shifting, or spaces between the teeth becoming wider
· Loosening of teeth
· Receding gums
· A change in one’s bite
Please note: It is possible to have gum disease and not have one of these symptoms listed above. Since gum disease is usually painless, it is advisable to have regular checkups which include a thorough periodontal examination. These checkups should be scheduled every 3 to 6 months, depending upon the individual condition.
