Crown lengthening is a procedure that exposes more natural tooth structure by reshaping the gum and bone tissue. This procedure is often recommended on teeth that are broken or decayed under the gum line, or where there is insufficient tooth available for a restoration. Exposing more tooth structure will allow your dentist to make a better fitting and higher quality restoration.

Crown lengthening can also be performed for cosmetic reasons. Exposing more tooth structure can improve the appearance of a “gummy” smile, making short teeth look longer and/or correcting an uneven gum line.
